Abstract

Densities,ρ and refractive indices, nD of L-valine (0.02-0.1m) in 0.01m aqueous solution of cationic surfactants, tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide(TTAB) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) have been measured at 298.15, 303.15 and 308.15 K. The density data has been utilized to calculate apparent molar volumes, ∅, partial molar volumes at infinite dilution, ∅ ° , its experimental slope, ∗, and partial molar volumes of transfer, ∅ °(tr) of amino acids. The refractive index, nD data has been used to evaluate molar refractivity, RD. The above calculated parameters were found to be sensitive towards the interactions prevailing in the studied amino acid surfactantwater systems. The behavior of these parameters has been used to investigate the solute-solute and solute-solvent interactions.
