Use of colchicine in atherosclerotic heart disease

Billy Lin, Michael Pillinger,

Abstract

Colchicine is an ancient medication, currently FDA approved for the treatment of gout and familial Mediterranean fever. Although its uses in other rheumatic diseases (e.g., calcium pyrophosphate crystal disease, small vessel vasculitis, Behcet’s syndrome) are fairly well established, the potential of colchicine use in ASHD has only recently begun to be studied.
