Abstract

Ultrasound speed (u), density (ρ) and viscosity (η) have been measured for pure liquids and their binary mixtures formed from 1-octanol, and 1-decanol with non-polar solvents like toluene, carbon tetrachloride, benzene and dioxane at 301 K covering the entire mole fraction range of n-alcohols. From the experimental data, adiabatic compressibility ( b ) ,intermolecular free length (Lf), acoustic impedance (Z), have been computed. These parameters are used to discuss the nature and extent of intermolecular interactions between the component molecules. The experimental values have been correlated using Nomotos, Ideal mixture, Jungies, Impedence and Rao’s relations.
