Abstract

The corrosion rates in the presence of 2-(3-methoxyphenyl)imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine (P4) as a C38 steel corrosion inhibitor in hydrochloric acid media, were measured by the weight loss method, in the range of temperatures from 308 to 343 K. It was found that the studied compounds exhibit a very good performance as inhibitor for C38 steel corrosionin 1.0 M HCl. Results show that the inhibition efficiency increases with decreasing temperature and increasing concentration of inhibitor. It has been determined that the adsorption for the studied inhibitor on C38 steel complies with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm at all studied temperatures. The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for C38 steel corrosion and inhibitor adsorption, respectively, were determined and discussed. On the bases of thermodynamic adsorption parameters, comprehensive adsorption (physisorption and chemisorption) for the studied inhibitor on C38 steel surface was suggested.
