Abstract

A The present research reveals the importance reserved to scientific teaching under Law No. 4024 (1961) (LDB / 1961) and Law No. 5692 (1971) (Reform of high school), by analyzing the presence of the subjects of Natural Sciences (Sciences , Physics, Chemistry and Biology) in secondary school curricula (Colegial/2º Grau). Such laws were in force at a historic moment of great innovations in science education in different parts of the world, and also of external influences and interventions in the Brazilian educational system. We present the analysis of documents that directed the curriculum documents at national level and of some states of the Brazilian federation in this context of changes The results presented in this study admit the idea that the scientific disciplines that, in theory, would lead to the formation of a scientific culture consistent with the social issues that were present in the context of the 1960s and 1970s, did not have a privileged space, in terms of presence and workload in secondary school curricula, according to the discourse of the laws that determined the curricular reforms of the period.
