Abstract

ZnAl 2 O 4 was synthesized by coprecipitation method with and without using water extract of Impatiens balsamina L. The aim of this work was to evaluate the influence of water extract of Impatiens balsamina L to crysta llinity, crystallite size, and morphology of ZnAl 2 O 4 . The weight variation of Impatiens balsamina L tha t used was 8 g, 12 g, and 20 g in 50 mL of demineralized water. The XRD p attern showed ZnAl 2 O 4 which was synthesized by using water extract of Impatiens balsamina L had better crystal linity than without using water extract of Impatien s balsamina L. The best crystallinity of ZnAl 2 O 4 was obtained by using 12 g of water extract of Impa tiens balsamina Lafter calcination at 800 o C. The average crystallite size of various ZnAl 2 O 4 by using 0 g (without extract), 8 g, 12 g, and 20 g of extract variation using Sherrer formula wer e 20.42 nm, 23.01 nm, 25,70 nm, and 25,57 nm, respe ctively. The SEM micrograph showed that ZnAl 2 O 4 which was synthesized using water extract of Impati ens balsamina L have irregular shape and almost similar to the morpholog y of ZnAl 2 O 4 without using extract, but its particles more even ly distributed with similar size than ZnAl 2 O 4 without using extract.
