Synthesis of some biologically important 2-thiobarbituric acid derivatives incorporating benzothiazole moiety

Abstract

Some N-(4/6-substituted-1,3-benzothiazol-2-yl)–N'-phenyl thiourea derivatives (3) have been synthesized by the reaction of substituted benzothiazoles with phenyl isothiocyanate in absolute ethanol. These (3) were condensed with malonic acid in acetyl chloride to get 1-(4/6-substituted- 1,3-benzothiazol-2-yl)-3-phenyl-2-thiobarbituric acid derivatives (5). All the synthesized compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and Mass spectral studies. Compounds 3 and 5 were screened for their entomological and antibacterial activities.
