Abstract
Cu(II) complexes containing ligands 2-formyl pyridine semicarbazone (L1), 2-formyl pyridine thiosemicarbazone (L2), 5-methyl-2-formyl pyridine semicarbazone (L3) and 5-methyl 2-formyl pyridine thiosemicarbazone (L4) have been synthesised. The ligands were characterised on the basis of elemental analyses, 1R, 1HNMR and mass spectal studies while that of the complexes were characterised by elemental analyses, molar conductance, magnetic moment, 1R, electronic and EPR spectral studies. On the basis of elemental analyses and molar conductance data the complexes were found to have general composition [Cu(L)2X2] (where L=L1, L2, L3 and L4 , X = Cl–] ½SO4 2–, NO3 –]. On the basis of 1R, electronic and EPR spectra of complexes, tetragonal distorted octahedral geometries were found with planar coordination of the ligand around Cu2+ ion and the anions occupies axial position.
