Synthesis, antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant activity studies on 2-benzylthio- and 2-benzylsulfonyl-1H-imidazoles

Abstract

New 2-(2-methylbenzylthio)-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid derivatives were prepared by the reaction of diethyl 2-mercapto-4,5-imidazole dicarboxylate, DMF, NaHCO3, K2CO3 and alkyl or aryl halides. These on further reaction with DCM and MCPBA form 2-(2- methylbenzylsulfonyl)-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid derivatives. All new compounds were tested for their biological activities.
