Simultaneous UV spectrphotometric estimation of enalapril maleate and hydrochlorothiazide in tablets

Abstract

A simple, rapid and sensitive UV spectrophotometric method was developed for the simultaneous estimati on of Enalapril maleate (ENM) and Hydrochlorothiazide (HC TZ) in pharmaceutical dosage forms. This method emp loys solving of simultaneous equations based on the meas urement of absorbance at the λ max values of ENM (207nm) and HCTZ (272nm).Calibration curves were linear in the range of 5-50μ g/mL and 5-30μ g/mL for ENM and HCTZ respectively. Recovery studies for ENM and HCTZ wer e performed and the percentage recovery for both th e drugs was obtained in the range of 98.4-99.1 % and 98.8-9 9.1 % respectively. The method showed good reprodu cibility and recovery with % RSD less than 2. The proposed m ethod can be successfully applied for the determina tion of ENM and HCTZ in pharmaceutical formulations and is validated according to ICH guidelines.
