Simple and convenient method of synthesis of N-ethyl-2,6-diethyl aniline and derivatives

Abstract

N-alkylation of 2,6-diethyl aniline and its derivatives using various aldehydes by Pd/C catalyst in aqueous 2- propanol solvent using ammonium formate as insitu hydrogen donor facilitate the formation of N-ethyl-2,6-diethyl aniline and its derivatives which is the simple method of formation of this compound. The reaction proceeds smoothly and selectively with excellent yield at room temperature .Our method presents a facile, economical and environmentally benign alternative for reductive amination.
