Abstract

Introduction: Whiles in veterinary medicine polymyxins have never ceased to be used for the treatment of Enterobacteria infections, high resistance rates are observed in infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria producing carbapenems against colistin. Objective: To review the aspects involved in resistance in Escherichia coli encoded by the gene mcr-1. Conclusion: It is believed that this resistance, especially in Escherichia coli, is associated with the intense use of colistin in animal nurture, which represents an important public health problem.
