Abstract

In the present investigations sugarcane bagasse (SCB) was used as an adsorbent for Ni (II) removal from aqueous solutions. The influence of physico-chemical parameters such as the initial metal ion concentration, pH, contact time and adsorbent dosage was investigated in batch studies. Optimum experimental conditions were found to be pH 8.5, contact time of 60 min and adsorbent dose of 2.5 gm/150 ml at an initial metal concentration of 100 mgL-1 using standard samples. Maximum removal of Ni (II) (90.09%) was observed at 100 ppm. Studies on kinetics adsorption were carried out and the adsorption was found to fit in pseudo first order model. Reuse and regeneration of the adsorbent was also studied.
