Abstract

Public Health 2018- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: An Emerging Public Health Challenges Maninder Kaur Panjab University, India Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a set of symptoms due to ascended androgens (male hormones) in females. Signs and symptoms of PCOS include aberrant or no menstrual periods, heftily ponderous periods, excess body and facial hair, acne, pelvic pain, arduousness getting enceinte, and patches of thick, more tenebrous, velvety skin. Associated conditions include type 2 diabetes, extravagant corpulence, obstructive slumber apnea, heart disease, mood disorders, and endometrial cancer. PCOS is due to a coalescence of genetic and environmental factors. Risk factors include inordinate corpulence, a lack of physical exercise, and a family history of someone with the condition. Diagnosis is predicated on two of the following three findings: no ovulation, high androgen levels, and ovarian
