Preparation and evaluation of polyherbal formulation for its wound healing activity

Abstract

The present study was aimed to prepare and evaluate the polyherbal formulation of Tridax procumbens, Curcuma longa, Aloe vera for its wound healing activity. These three important herbs in formulation are reported to have significant anti-bacterial, immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory activities. The polyherbal formulation was prepared as an ointment containing the extracts of the herbs and further was evaluated for wound healing activity by performing excision wound model in rats. Formulations containing different concentration of herbal extracts were prepared and applied topically and their results were studied on the 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, 20th day post-operatively and compared with the controls. The results showed that there was significant wound healing activity in both treatment group and standard group when compared with control group of animals. The study reveals that the polyherbal formulation has a promising wound healing activity.
