Abstract

Hibiscus rosa sinensis is a species of family Malv aceae. Indicators are very special chemicals, they change colour of the solution with change in Ph by adding acid or alkali. In the present work acid base titration h as been performed by using natural indicators. The natural indicator is prepared from the most commonly occurr ing flower Hibiscus rosa sinensis . Aqueous and methanolic ext ract of flower were used as natural indicator. Tw o acids (H 2 SO 4 and CH 3 COOH) and two bases (KOH and NH 4 OH) were selected for acid base titration. 1.0N, 0.1N and 0.5N strength of these acids and bases were prepared. T he results obtained by the natural indicators are a lmost similar to the results given by the synthetic indic ator. Thus natural indicators from flowers can be u sed for acid base titration at any dilution. Titration with aqueous e xtract of natural indicator has not yet been done b y any research team. Using aqueous extract of flower as indicator is more economical and with the same accuracy of re sult as that given by synthetic indicator
