Abstract
In this study, data on fisheries along River Asi with important water reserve together with its tributaries are included. For this purpose, species caught in the area, fishing gear used, catching methods and fisherman profiles were determinate. Records of Hatay Agriculture Ministry Department were used for catch amount estimated. Fisherman profiles are defined by face to face talks in different area of the River. Fishing gears used in the region were illustrated according to catalogues of FAO standards. Catch species groups such as Catfish (Clarias lazera), family of Cyprinidae (Cyprinus carpio, Capoeta capoeta, Capoeta trutta, Capoeta damascina, Capoeta barroisi) and Eel fish (Anguilla anguilla) are frequently caught in the basin. Fishing is carried out with set nets, fyke nets, seine nets, various types of fishing lines and local traps. Most of the people, who were fishing activity in the River, haven’t license of amateur or professional fisherman while the River has provided important income for the people. These fishing activities in River Asi were determinated artisanal fishing.
