First Record of Pampus argenteus (Euphrasen, 1788) (Osteichthyes: Stromateidae) in the Tunisian Coast (Mediterranean Sea)

Abstract

 First Record of Pampus argenteus (Euphrasen, 1788) (Osteichthyes: Stromateidae) in the Tunisian Coast (Mediterranean Sea) The second Mediterranean record of the silver pomfret, Pampus argenteus is reported, with the capture of four specimens in the Gulf of Hammamet (North-East Tunisia) on March 15th 2007. The species is a non-indigenous for the Mediterranean, being native to the Indo-West Pacific area. A short description of all these specimens is given and the presence of this species in the Mediterranean is critically discussed. This note describes the first record of the P. argenteus in the Tunisian waters (Southwestern Mediterranean Sea).
