Abstract

This work is an attempt to study the in-vitro anti- diabetic and antioxidant activity along with the an alysis of phytochemical constituents of liverworts Ptychanthu s striatus (Lehm. & Lindenb.) Nees (Lejeuneaceae), Pellia epiphylla (L.) Corda (Pelliaceae) and Bazzania oshi mensis (Steph.) Horik. (Lepidoziaceae). Antioxidant activities were analyzed in-vitro by seven different assays: D PPH radical, metal chelating, superoxide, ABTS + , reducing power, anti-lipid peroxidation and nitric oxide ass ay. Anti-diabetic potential was analysed by estimat ing α -amylase and α -glucosidase inhibitory activity of the plant. Dete ction and estimation of the constituent phytochemic als was done through qualitative test, quantitative test an d TLC analysis. Results indicated significant anti -diabetic activity, antioxidant activity and occurrence of varied phyto chemicals in studied plants. This finding paved the way for further analysis on these liverworts for obtaining phytochemicals of significant clinical and cosmetic importance.
