Abstract

Two sensitive and simple spectrophotometric methods for the determination of Ranolazine Hydrochloride in pharmaceutical formulations are described. The Method A is based on oxidative coupling of Ranolazine Hydrochloride with 3-methylbenzothiazolin-2-one hydrazone (MBTH). The resulting green complex has λmax at 627.5 nm and its absorbance is linear with concentration over the range of 10-45μg/mL. Method B is based on the formation of blue colored chromogen when the drug reacts with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent (FCR). The colored species has an absorption maximum at 731.4 nm and exhibits linearity in the concentration range of 30-100μg/mL. The molar Absorptivity, Sandell’s sensitivity for each system were calculated. The proposed methods are simple, sensitive, accurate and suitable for quality control applications.
