Abstract
This study reports fishing activities and fishing resources of coastal fisheries in Bozcaada Island. The technical characteristics of set net, handline and longlines in the island were also exposed. A total of 7 various types set nets of which four trammel nets and the others gill nets and 2 type longlines were determined from coastal fisheries in the area. Technical characteristics of these gears were identified according to the FAO catalogue. The fish and invertebrate species caught from coastal fishery were typical of those that inhabit coastal embayments in the Aegean. Bluefish, hake, red mullet, gilthead seabream, bogue, grouper, bonito, mackerel, octopus, squid and lobster species dominated in the commercial catch. A to-tal of 13 finfish, 3 invertebrate species were identifled from commercial catches in coastal fisheries of Bozcaada.
