Abstract

Adducts of group (iv) metal chloride with Schiff bases derived from, sulphadiazine and salicylaldehyde (I), thiophene 2-asdhyde (II) and 4- dimethylaminobenzaldehyde (iii) have been characterized on the basis of TLC, IR, NMR, UV- visible spectroscopy, elemental analysis, conductance measurements and molecular weight determinations. The Schiff base by chloride ion generated by various nucleophiles have also been carried out at room temperature. A probable mechanism of substitution has been proposed. The toxicity of the Schiff. The LD50 value for cockroaches and % growth inhibition of the fungi show greater efficacy for the complexes than the Schiff bases.
