Abstract

A few 1-substituted imidazoles 1(a-d) and 2(a-d) have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, DART-MS spectral data. The synthesized compounds were screened for their in vitro growth inhibiting activity against different strains of bacteria and fungi viz., Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Streptococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi, Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger and Penicillium chrysogenum (10 and 50μg/ml) and the results were compared with the standard antibiotic Ciprofloxacin and ketoconazole (10μg/ml) using agar diffusion technique.
