Abstract
Garcinia gummigutta, belonging to Guttiferae family is a medium sized, evergreen tree,mostly found in hilly tracks ofWestern Ghats of South India and also distributed over South East Asia. Garcinia gummigutta is a dioecious plant, whose male and female plants are separate. Gender identification methods have been developed for this species based on peroxidase isoenzyme studies.Apart from laboratorymethods, a field method has also been developed to identify male and female plants.
