An - Pyng Sun

Abstract

Based on personal interviews, this paper presents the story of a substance-abusing woman and her journey in pursuit of recovery. Factors of her childhood and the multiple issues she encountered later in adulthood were highlighted. Although this paper focuses only on one woman, it provides an in-depth and intimate close-up of the world of a substance-abusing woman. The goal is to demonstrate a coherent picture, context, and journey of a substance abusing woman by linking all the identified important concepts and components. The function of this paper is to help readers obtain a more intimate and real sense of understanding of and a more holistic perspective on a substanceabusing women’s life. While quantitative studies often focus on isolated variables, this case study ties relevant variables and creates a holistic and more meaningful picture. Analyses and suggestions are developed to help practitioners better understand the needs, struggles, and strengths of the woman to more effectively help her.
