A New Expression for the Full Energy Photo-Peak Efficiency of a High Pure Germanium Detector as a Function of Distance and Energy

Abstract

A new expression for the full energy photo-peak efficiency in terms of gamma ray energy and the sourcedetector distance has been obtained for a high pure germanium detector (HPGe) using different standard sources. Comparison of the calculated efficiencies and the experimentally measured values for the energy range from 59.5– 1332.2 KeV and a source-detector distances 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 cm. This shows a good agreement between the theory and the experiment.
