Abstract
2-Hydroxy-4-n-Propoxy-5-Bromoacetophenone oxime is a new analytical reagent, which was used for gravimetric estimation of Cu(II) and Ni(II) ions. In the pH range 3.0 to 6.0, this reagent gives a buff coloured precipitate with Cu2+ and Job’s method and mole ratio method revealed that the stoichiometry of the complex is 1:2. Beer’s law is obeyed upto 76.2 ppm of Cu2+. The molar absorptivity at 420 nm was found to be 1.638 x 102 litre mol-1 cm-1 and the Sandell’s sensitivity was found to be 0.387 μg of Cu(II)/cm2. The stability constant is found to be 1.5 ´ 109. Ni(II) gave a light green coloured precipitate in the pH range 8.0 – 10.0 and the stoichiometry of the complex was found to be 1:2. The molar absorptivity at 410 nm was found to be 7.775 ´ 102 litre mol-1 cm-1 and Sandell’s sensitivity as 0.0754 μg of Ni(II)/cm2. The stability constant of the complex was found to be 1.485 ´ 109. Beer’s law is obeyed upto 23.48 ppm. This reagent can be used for the determination of Cu(II) and Ni(II) in German silver alloy
