Abstract

Due to the rapid bacterial resistance to antibacterial agents, it is vital to discover novel scaffold for the design of new antibacterial agents to help in the battle against pathogenic microorganisms. Herewith, a series of novel indolyl pyrimidine analogues were evaluated for their antimicrobial activity. The antibacterial activity was carried out against E. coli, B. subtilis and S. aureus. Compounds i, f & c have shown maximum zone of inhibition and a, g & h have shown good zone of inhibition against all the three bacteria. In antifungal activity against A. niger, A. flavus and A. oryzae, compounds i, f & c have shown excellent potency with maximum zone of inhibition and a & c have shown moderate activity against all the three fungi. Hence, compounds i, f & c with interesting results have emerged as most potent antimicrobial agents
